ICCTA Business/Industry Partnership Award
Danville Area Community College and
Provena United Samaritans Medical Center
Since 1950, Provena United Samaritans Medical Center and Danville Area Community College
have enjoyed a mutually beneficial partnership. Throughout these 60 years, one constant has remained for the hospital -
its relationship with the college.
In recent years, the partnership between Provena and DACC has grown beyond nursing education.
Michael L. Brown, president/CEO of Provena United Samaritans Medical Center,
accepts ICCTA's 2011 Business/Industry Partnership Award as Danville Area Community College president
Dr. Alice Marie Jacobs looks on.
In 2003 Provena and DACC worked together to facilitate the transition of the community's
only radiologic technology program from the hospital to the college.
After moving to the college, the program expanded from a 24-month certificate program into an Associate in Applied Science degree.
Since the transition, Provena has continued to provide equipment, a teaching lab, and clinical facilities for students.
The hospital remains a valuable clinical site for DACC's nursing students, and now also includes students in other health
professions programs such as Sonography and Health Information Technology. Echocardiography will be added in the fall of 2011.
"Not only have our two organizations benefitted from the relationship, but the entire community has profited from our affiliation
through local access to allied health training, workforce development, and superior health care," says Provena president/CEO Michael L. Brown.
